The Waterloo County Teachers’ Choir has been active in the region since 1969. The choir’s founding director was Garfield Bender. Since then, directors have included Howard LeRoy, Des Tyrrell, Steve and Ruth Ann Fryer, the late Nancy Buckland and Tammy McMath. Currently, our director is Jane Schultz-Janzen.
In the fall term, the choir has a membership of 100+ teachers, retired teachers, educational assistants, administrators and other support staff. The membership also includes family members and friends as the choir is open to all those who share a love of singing. After Christmas, our numbers drop to about seventy-five, as many of our retired members become ‘snow birds’ during the winter.
March 2019 brought a two year pause to our singing together. With Covid some restrictions in place, WCTC will begin it's Fall session on September 20, 2022.
